Each WordPress site you monitor needs the free MXora Email Send Check plugin, which sends the test emails through the site's own mail setup. There's nothing else to install, and no API keys or passwords to copy between WordPress and your Email Send Check account.
1. Install the plugin
- In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New and search for MXora Email Send Check. You can also download it from WordPress.org.
- Install and activate it.
- Go to Tools > Email Send Check. The status should say Waiting to connect.
Activating the plugin opens a connection window of 4 hours. The site can only be connected to an account while that window is open, so nobody can claim it later without logging in to WordPress. If the window closes before you add the site, click Open connection window on the same page.
2. Add the site to your account
- Log in to EmailSendCheck.com and go to Email Checks.
-
Click Add email check and enter the site's address, such as
https://example.com. Use the address the site really loads at, includingwww.if it uses that. - Choose how often to test it and where alerts go, then save.
Adding lots of sites? On the Agency plan you can import them from a CSV.
3. Check it's connected
As soon as you save, we contact the plugin and connect the site to your account. This usually takes a few seconds. The Website Connection column then shows one of four badges:
- Connected: all done. The site will be tested on its schedule.
- Connecting: we're contacting the site now.
- Warning: setup isn't finished, or there's a problem that's probably temporary.
- Failed: something is blocking the connection and needs fixing.
Click the badge to see the exact problem and how to fix it. Once it's fixed, then click Retry connection. Every status and its fix is also listed on Connection problems. You can retry up to 5 times an hour for each site.
4. Run your first test
Connected sites are tested on your chosen schedule. To see a result straight away, click the paper-plane button (Run test now) in the Actions column for the site. You can run up to 5 manual tests an hour for each site.
Each test asks the plugin to send a short email to a unique address at our test inbox, through the site's normal mail setup. We then wait up to 15 minutes for it to arrive and check how it got there. Click the Last test badge to see the full report, and see Reading test results for what each check means.
The plugin's status page
Tools > Email Send Check in your WordPress site dashboard shows whether the site is connected, when the last test email was sent, and a log of recent requests from us. It also has two buttons:
- Reset connection disconnects the site from your Email Send Check account and opens a new connection window. Use it if the site was connected to the wrong account, or is moving to a different one.
- Open connection window appears when the site isn't connected and the window has closed.
If a site moves or changes address
Edit the check and change its address. We reconnect to the new address straight away. If the site now redirects somewhere else, or WordPress uses a different address from the one you entered, the connection status says so and offers a button to switch the check to the address it found.
